About Toby White

I'm a doer!

Three of my favourite things: Alexis Korner, ale and the blues

Alexis Korner biography

Alexis Korner

The majority of people I speak to don’t know who Alexis Korner is, so I thought I would write about him.

He has been christened ‘a founding father of British Blues‘ and The Rolling Stones amongst many, many, others have him to thank for where they are today. Led Zep probably wouldn’t be here weren’t it for him.

He was instrumental in the influence of the British music scene in the 60s, and was a major factor in bringing together various Blues musicians.

I first came across him on a music documentary but have since read his biography (which I highly recommend). I think he’s a class act.

Enjoy this video, where he’s playing with Steve Marriott, and Nick South…

Ale, another of my favourite things, is also excellent in my mind, as it highlights supporting local businesses, local pubs and brewery and I’d much rather support something like that than mass produced beers. Support your local pubs as they need all the support they can get.

Thirdly, the blues, another of my favourite things. A music genre that can be so diverse and complex yet so simple and beautiful.
You don’t have to be a fan of the blues to like blues music. Nearly every rock and roll band will have been influenced by the blues, and many wouldn’t have existed had it not been for Alexis Korner. Full circle.

As a footnote, I don’t agree with Dryanuary – get out there, and drink some real ale, at a real pub, and watch some live music while you’re at it.

Club 85, in Hitchin, is a great place to do both…

Cheers!

2013 – End of Year Roundup

This year has been one for friends, new beginnings, new projects, success and failure. But with every let down something better has come from it and that’s how we should all think. One needs to be positive and always move forward, without hesitation, and remember that good things are always on the horizon.

This year has been a bit of a blur. I sold one car and bought two new ones, changed jobs, made success with Frantik (Whitecherry) and put Death Cap on the back burner whilst that was focused on. Next year I want to take both and make them bigger and better, so watch that space.

I have continued and focused on my workout regime. You can follow my fitness microblog there if you’re interested to hear my musings….

I am also still very involved with Club 85 in Hitchin and working with social media for Rhythms of the World. Music is still something I hold close to my heart.

I can’t remember much from 2012 so  I intend to make 2014 truly special.

Peace and good health to all,

Happy New Year

New Purchase – Mazda MX-5 Eunos Roadster

Miranda says "Hello"

Say “Hello”

I’ve been looking for a project for a while, and although I talk a lot, I also walk the walk, if that makes sense. Mighty Car Mods, an Aussie based duo who have been present on YouTube for some time and are increasing in popularity rapidly, have turbocharged a Roadster already. I thought that 195bhp in something that weighs less than a tonne could be quite fun, so thought that it’s going to be the cheapest way to get some turbo fun.

My love for convertibles cars started with the MG TF, which I still have, and then proceeded to the  Audi, with the V8, which I love equally as much. But there was one thing missing – turbo!

I am also longing for that ‘boost’!

So this is going to be it – it’s a 1990 Mazda Roadster with a 1.6l DOHC 16V Engine, PAS, Air Con, and only 69000 miles on the clock. Price, £400. That’s what you get if you’re willing to be a bit gutsy with your offers…

I’m going to be updating the project page via Home Mechanic – with videos on YouTube and progress blogs here too.

Watch this space.
