Travels with Toby

Once a year, go someplace you’ve never been before – Dalai Lama

I try and do my best to discover new places. I’m a true advocate in using social discovery apps such as Foursquare.

I love Laterooms and there is no better resolve than getting a real deal on a hotel room or B&B for a great price. I always try and compare taxi prices with a great night in a different location, most often made better by a cracking slap up breakfast to start the following day. Most often soaking up the remnants of the boozy fueled night the night before.

I love supporting local businesses. Whether it’s checking out a new restaurant, or different pub or club. Every pound you spend is supporting that business. I love real ale and the Untappd app is really cool in this respect and helping you find new beers to try!

Quite often I will drive quite a distance to pick up car parts from another part of the country, but that is all part of the fun, and discovery if you like, that allows me to widen my visiting places that I normally would not visit.

So, ultimately, what I’m saying is get up and get out there!

P.S If you’re on Twitter keep up with me using the #tobygoesontour or #travelswithtoby

Am I a self declared workaholic?

Workaholic: A workaholic is a person who is addicted to work. While the term generally implies that the person enjoys their work,  it can also imply that they simply feel compelled to do it.

I don’t know if I’d go so far as to say that I am a workaholic as such but I do enjoy working. I was working on my birthday – which I would say is obscure.

I think some people are programmed to do business, even if they aren’t directly aware. People like Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg, Richard Branson etc, all people who may not have directly understood the paths they’d take but I know how to do business, and make money. I know a good idea when I see one and whether something will or won’t be profitable or ‘worthwhile’.

I see work as a way to keep out of trouble, but others may call it boring. I see dollar signs, when others may not. I don’t call that boring!

Quality of life is important!

Some people have asked why I have moved to a town where I know very few people, or where I haven’t really visited much in the past at all. Well, now I am going to clear some things up.

My commute to work is 15 minutes without traffic. I can cycle to work on cycle ways which don’t run along busy roads. If worst comes to worst I can walk to work.

I’m saving nearly two whole hours a day. I can sleep longer and not have to get up so early.

So yes, I could have saved some more, or moved into a smaller house, or had somewhere without offroad parking or a garden, but I get all of those things with a shorter commute. That is why I moved where I have moved to!

And when it comes to it, ‘home’ is only an hour away!
