Keeping my cars together

MG Progress Update 5 – painting side grills!

These grills covered the air intake vents on the side of the car – previously going rusty but nothing a bit of Hammerite can’t resolve!

The front grill is also in need of a respray but this would involve removing the whole front bumper to do – so that can wait for a while. Plus, it’s more concealed than the rear intakes.

Had a little issue fixing the grills back in, we didn’t have the right glue and the stuff we used bubbled up, but the worst of it is removed and for now it will do!

MG Progress Update 4 – A new stereo (earlier than planned!)

Howdy, so yes things are coming on well. I was hit by a stroke of luck with this one really. I had received some vouchers from Bedford College to spend in shops around Bedford – all part of the Bedford BID scheme.
This, I thought, was quite generous!

What was even better was that Argos were one of the shops listed where I could spend the vouchers at so naturally I had a quick look through their catalogue to make sure that they did car stereos – which they did!

I’d already got a Kenwood unit in the car, which I was pleased with, so thought I’d go down that route again. I picked up a Kenwood KDC-415UR CD/Radio/USB/Aux unit mainly because it was the most expensive I could get with £100 of vouchers and secondly because it seemed like the best I could get for the money that would let me plug my iPod in.

It also came with a set of free speakers – but the factory fitted ones seem pretty awesome for now!

MG Progress Update 3 – Brake calipers restored to orginal colour!

Or at least I hope it’s very near original. Yes, this is how I spent the Sunday just gone. 7hrs  (allowing drying time) to take off one wheel at a time, paint, repaint, put wheel back on, touch up and then repeat with the second wheel.

All good fun, and I really was blessed with the weather (and the fact we had no rain, and the rest of England seemed to get loads!)

I am, needless to say, rather chuffed with the end result.

For those that are interested I used Halfords Brake Caliper Paint – at the time of writing this the price stands at £10.99 for a tin which is more than enough paint.
