So as is common with TF’s prior to 2007 – mine was prone to Head Gasket Failure. First signs of warning were coolant loss, but no apparent leaking. This occured a few times but I’d been keeping an eye on the oil and it wasn’t frothy/milky/emulsified as is common when this occurs.
Luckily I know a mechanic who was able to fix this for me for a better-than-garage price…

Big success – the High Level Brake light is back in and now all the LEDs are working again – my theory being that it being indoors for that long has dried it out?
Anyhow it’s back in and all working!
I’m really pleased about this… as it’s been bugging me for a long time.
The unit is sealed and although there are folk on the MG Forum who’ve said they’ve had it apart to check I wouldn’t like to try it for fear that something will break.
Total cost to get it working again – £0
TOP TIP – To put the light unit back in we needed to remove the plastic plug fittings. We did this by inserting a screw into the centre and pulling hard with a pair of pliers.
It had been a long wait – but the wait was well worth it. This exhaust is great, quality is fantastic and it’s one of only a short run of custom exhausts for the MG TF designed by The Surrey Labs, England.
Cost – £329 – but worth every penny!
We had to grind the old exhaust off and use some brute force as 8 years of rust and corrosion had ensured that it wouldn’t come off easily.
You can find the logs of the fitting on the .org Forums at the following link:
